Beginning with this edition of the Life Coaching By Mike Zinn Newsletter, we will add a Book Club segment. Reading can open-up people to opportunities, knowledge, insight and curiosity. I want to share short reviews of books I have read and benefitted from. Ideally, all of you will also read this book and we can all have some lively discussions! A Curious Mind, By Brian Grazer and Charles Fishman:

 

For those of you not familiar with his work, Brian Grazer is an acclaimed Hollywood producer. Grazer is the co-founder of Imagine Entertainment, with Ron Howard. Grazer has produced such movies as, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Splash and 8 Mile.

Since the late 1970’s,Grazer has sought out interesting and accomplished strangers from many walks of life. He engages these strangers in what he calls, ”curiosity conversations. The central theme of A  Curious Mind, is that more than intelligence and connections, curiosity has allowed Grazer to live a fulfilled and fruitful life. Grazer feels curiosity is the key to his success and happiness.

When reading this book, there are many valuable insights, that can help all people in their personal and professional lives. Below are some key bullet point insights, that should, “wet your appetite” to read A Curious Mind:

·      Asking questions(being curious), helps build confidence in your own ideas.

·      Curiosity is what drives human beings out into the world each day, to ask questions about what is going on around them.

·      Curiosity spurs you to chase your passions. It keeps you “plugged in” to science, music and popular culture.

·      Asking questions, creates a mindset of innovation and creativity.

·      If you have a fear of something, get curious about it.
